Running battles rage in Cairo
There have been running battles between pro-democracy protesters and loyalists of Hosni Mubarak, Egypt's embattled president, near Cairo's Tahrir (Liberation) Square. Witnesses said that gunshots rang out from a bridge leading to the square, the epicentre of protests against Mubarak for the past 10 days. An Al Jazeera correspondent, reporting from the scene, said it was not clear who was behind the firing. There have been sporadic clashes throughout Thursday, as the army fanned out to separate the two sides and allowed thousands more protesters to enter their camp in the square. Soldiers then stepped aside as the anti-government side surged forward in resumed clashes. With volleys of stones, the pro-democracy protesters pushed back the Mubarak loyalists who had swarmed onto a nearby highway overpass where they pelted their rivals with objects. At the same time, Mubarak supporters also carried out a string of attacks on journalists around the square. PM apologises A day earlier, Tahrir Square had witnessed fierce clashes, after Mubarak loyalists - some of them riding camels and horses - attacked the pro-democracy protesters. Ahmed Shafiq, the Egyptian prime minister, made an unprecedented apology on Thursday for Wednesday's assault that turned central Cairo into a battle zone. Shafiq said the attack on the anti-Mubarak protesters was a "blatant mistake" acknowledging that it was likely organised and promised to investigate who was behind it. The pro-democracy protesters ...

ویدیوهای بیشتر در مورد ایران را می توانید در این جا ببینید www.mardomak.org Speaking in an interview with Iran's state-run TV, Prosecutor-General Gholam Hossein Mohseni Ejei said the bank corruption ...

Paul van der Sloot: I am a replacing member of the joint court of justice of the Netherlands Antilles and Aruba [1] and I am appointed for a period of three years, from January the first, 2003, until January the first, 2006. Reporter (Twan Huys): So, you are replacement judge? Paul van der Sloot: Yes. Reporter (Twan Huys): Do you know the people very well, for example, the people here from the public prosecutors' office that ordered your detention? Paul van der Sloot: Yes, for sure, because, before that, I have worked for eight years as chief of the cabinet of the prosecutor general [2]. Reporter (Twan Huys): So, you also know the current prosecutor general? Paul van der Sloot: Yes. Reporter (Twan Huys): Mrs. Croes. Paul van der Sloot: Yes. Reporter (Twan Huys): Yes, and what does that mean when your colleagues stop by to arrest you? Paul van der Sloot: That gives a feeling of absurdity. ICC rejects Palestinian request to investigate crimes within its territories
The International Criminal Court's General Prosecutor Luis Moreno-Ocampo on Monday said the court will not accept a Palestinian demand to investigate alleged war crimes by Israel since July 2002 until Palestine is recognize as a state by the UN General Assembly. "In order to proceed we need the General Assembly of the UN accepting Palestine as an observer state. As soon as this is done we can proceed," Ocampo told Al Arabiya's New York Bureau Chief Talal al-Haj in an inclusive interview. "There is a problem because In order to proceed I need Palestine recognized as a state because I am not the prosecutor of the world, I am the prosecutor of the countries who accept my jurisdiction. I need a country accepting me and then I investigate the crimes," the prosecutor said. In Jan. 22, 2009, the Palestinian Authority (PA) submitted declaration to the International Criminal Court (ICC) under Article 12(3) of the Rome Statute which allows States not party to the Statute to accept the Court's jurisdiction. The PA's declaration stated: 'The Government of Palestine hereby recognizes the jurisdiction of the Court for the purpose of identifying, prosecuting and judging the authors and accomplices of crimes committed on the territory of Palestine since 1 July 2002. As a consequence, the Government of Palestine will cooperate with the Court without delay or exceptions in conformity with Chapter 9.' The debate since then has focused largely on whether ICC Prosecutor Ocampo first holds the ...
